Park County HVAC Upgrades
Groathouse Construction, Inc. was selected to undertake this complex renovation of the existing courthouse, which had not been updated since 1985. The project was strategically phased to ensure continued public access to parts of the building throughout construction. Each phase included a complete overhaul to the decades old mechanical systems, with replacement of all duct work and heating/cooling piping.
The first phase focused on renovating the assessor, clerk, treasurer and election offices. We installed two new air-handler units in the basement and one in the mezzanine. For this phase alone we removed and replaced 23,000 sf of acoustical ceiling tile to access the duct work. New sprinkler heads and additional valves in the fire suppression system were installed. We also upgraded light fixtures to LED’s, and new carpet throughout the basement level and second floor. Two new chillers, required additional piping, and paint throughout was added via change order.
The second phase involved modernizing the mechanical system in the original courthouse building. Two new Energy Recovery Ventilator units were installed on the top floor of the 1912 building. In addition to HVAC upgrades, we also expanded the Commissioner’s Meeting Room, upgraded all lighting to LED’s and upgraded carpet. Two new chillers, required additional piping, and paint throughout was added via change order.
Added via change order, the third phase included renovations to the Public Works building. This included a complete roof replacement, and installation of seven new rooftop units. The fire suppression system was extended to all offices not previously sprinkled, along with painting throughout the office areas and new carpet installation.
This project required extensive collaboration with Park County to minimize disruption to courthouse functions during construction. Given that construction was completed during election season, strategic planning was critical to maintaining county operations and safeguards. Our management team helped coordinate relocation of county employees during each phase, as well as helped facilitate public traffic redirection to the temporary location(s).
